Charity fashion parade nets £6k
Archant Life’s Grove magazine has played host to a dazzling fashion show and auction to help raise money for two very worthy charities.
The ‘Grove Style Stars’ event at 20th Century Theatre in Westbourne Grove saw £6,000 raised for local cancer fundraisers Octopus Challenge, which will be distributed between CancerBackup and The Shooting Star’s Children’s Hospice.
Octopus supporter and actor Nathaniel Parker – aka TV’s Inspector Linley – introduced the event before models hit the catwalk in creations from top Notting Hill designers of past, present and future.
The runway show was followed by an auction and raffle. Items under the hammer included a one-off pair of Oliver Goldsmith ‘Ogle’ frames (created exclusively for the event), a custom made ‘shoe experience’ at the Terry de Havilland studio and a hand-picked pair of jeans from Made in Heaven (which thanks to one generous bidder, sold for four times its retail value).
As local celebrities, designers and models mingled at the after show party they were entertained by The Jay Scott Project who are supporting Take That on their UK tour.
Thirsts were quenched with juicy, fruit cocktails and hunger kept at bay with a constant flow of mouth-watering canapés, including Cajun spiced fishcakes and crostini with rare beef and horseradish, followed by rich chocolate frosted brownies.
With goody bags packed to the brim with locally donated goodies, party goers went home happy, and all for a good cause.
Grove is the magazine for Notting Hill, Kensington, Holland Park, Westbourne Park, Paddington, Bayswater, Maida Vale, Queen's Park, Kensal Rise and Kensal Green.
